ROTHESAY
Richmond, Virginia

Longtime Richmond, Virginia residents were ready for a quieter lifestyle on the city's verdant outskirts. The retiring couple purchased the 1920's house and hired Bridget Beari Designs to renovate it into their dream home. The goal was to fully customize the home to accommodate their individual and shared requests while maintaining its stunning architectural style.

In each room, the views of the magnificent property are highlighted and integrated into the overall design. A largely neutral palette is accented with rich, warm hues in décor and a blend of both bold and delicate patterns in window and wall treatments as well as floorcoverings. Traditional silk Oriental and Turkish rugs in unexpected colors add unique personality to each space. Antique furniture and décor from across the globe add eclectic flair so that the traditional interiors feel current and out of the ordinary. A sumptuous mix of materials, fabrics, antique and vintage furnishings create comfortable elegance throughout. A fantastic collection of fine art including contemporary and vintage works accentuates the design.

An avid cook, the husband's main directive was for a chef's kitchen that combines modern amenities while echoing existing architectural details from the rest of the home. Two-tone custom cabinetry with classic lines and moldings in creamy white above a mid-tone, historical gray-blue work beautifully with the quartz counter and island tops. The large island provides ample storage and prep space, which was also a priority. An array of cast iron cookware and serving baskets hang conveniently above from a polished chrome rack. In contrast, a custom aged copper hood introduces rich patina. Crisp white crown molding was reproduced to match the original molding throughout the home. The home's original oak floors are continued into the kitchen. Custom window treatments in Schumacher's Marine Toile make a bold yet timeless statement. A vintage runner warms the space and adds another layer of texture and history.

The wife's main request was for a luxury spa bathroom. In order to create the large, airy bath, Bridget Beari Designs combined three closets with the original bathroom. The interior design celebrates the surrounding wide-open skies and wildlife. A gorgeous sky-blue envelopes the space and wall trim. The custom vanity echoes a slightly softer shade. Crisp white molding and quartz flooring support the fresh, expansive feel. Custom linen window treatments in Osbourne & Little Perdana bring birds and flowering branches inside. The large, freestanding double slipper tub accommodates luxuriant soaks. A vintage Turkish runner adds warmth and contrast to the delicate shade pattern and clean architectural lines. The vintage oil landscape in custom gold-leaf frame adds warm charm and further pulls together the room's soothing, optimistic palette.
